Orakpo, Morgan inactive for Redskins

By John Keim

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Linebacker Brian Orakpo might have played his final game for the Washington Redskins. The free-agent-to-be was made inactive for Sunday's regular season finale against the New York Giants because of a strained right groin.

Orakpo
Orakpo has said he would like to return, but there's so much uncertainty in Washington that his status will remain in doubt until a new coach is hired and a new scheme is determined, along with his value.

Orakpo's absence creates an opportunity for Rob Jackson, another pending free agent, to showcase his skills, if only for a game. Jackson has been a backup all season, but had a strong season in 2012 and could use a good game to close the season. Also, rookie linebacker Brandon Jenkins is active.

Meanwhile, receiver Josh Morgan is inactive and is another player who could have played his final game in Washington. His lack of productivity has doomed him, and it's hard to see a new staff wanting to retain him.

Other inactives for Washington: quarterback Robert Griffin III, corner Chase Minnifield, guard Josh LeRibeus, center J.D. Walton and linebacker Adrian Robinson.

LeRibeus, a former third-round pick, was not active for a single game this season and, after two years, that qualifies as a major disappointment.

For New York, quarterback Ryan Nassib, linebacker Allen Bradford, guard Eric Herman, guard Brandon Mosley, receiver Victor Cruz, tight end Adrien Robinson and defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul are inactive.
