Eagles-Jets exhibition has interesting twist
By Andy Jasner
Preseason games are usually not very intriguing.
There are always exceptions, though.
The Philadelphia Eagles' fourth and final preseason game will feature the return of quarterback Michael Vick, who is now a member of the New York Jets.
It could also be the first time new Eagles backup quarterback Mark Sanchez faces his former team. Sanchez recently signed with the Eagles after spending five seasons in the Jets' organization.
Vick has a good chance of playing since he'll likely be in competition with Geno Smith for the starting job.
The third preseason game is almost always the one in which starters receive the most playing time. But the Jets' battle is far from complete, so Vick could be performing in front of his former teammates at Lincoln Financial Field.
As for Sanchez, he also has a lot to prove followed an injury-riddled season with the Jets. He'll open the season backing up Eagles starter Nick Foles.
“I'm confident no matter who I'm competing against,” Sanchez told reporters. “Coming in here, I'm not stirring up a controversy. I'm here to help this team win, whatever that means. I really do respect Foles. I respect what he's done here, especially last year. He's a heck of a player, an incredible talent and I'm excited to work with him.”
The Eagles-Jets preseason game is reportedly scheduled for Aug. 28, a Thursday night. Vick vs. Sanchez could be a very enticing subplot for the final exhibition game.
