Abbrederis still stunned by his injury

By Rob Demovsky

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- It was late on Saturday night when Green Bay Packers rookie receiver Jared Abbrederis made his way down the Lambeau Field tunnel and back to the locker room, and by then he had a full day to let the full weight of his season-ending knee injury sink in.

Yet the fifth-round pick from the University of Wisconsin -- and the player many fans around the state were most excited to see in a Packers' uniform -- still had the look of shock on his face.

"Yeah, I mean, it's unfortunate," he said after the team's Family Night practice. "Obviously these things happen, you just look to the positives, try to find positives. Just ready to get to work -- get surgery, get it fixed up and get ready for next year."

What made the injury so surprising to Abbrederis was the fact that it happened in practice on Wednesday, yet he was able to practice in full on Thursday before it began to bother him.

"I remember one play [on Wednesday], just kind of feeling it," he said. "I didn't really think it was an ACL, so I thought I was good to go."

Abbrederis, who appeared to be on track to make the roster as either the No. 5 or No. 6 receiver, said no date has been set for his surgery.
