CB Jackson increases Texans' Bama ties
By Paul Kuharsky
In DeMeco Ryans, Antoine Caldwell and first-round pick Kareem Jackson, the Houston Texans could have three players from Alabama in their opening day starting lineup.
Here are a few quotes of note from Jackson and Caldwell Friday, courtesy of the Texans:
Jackson on whom he admires: “I grew up watching Champ Bailey. As a kid I always loved his game and his techniques, so I always tried to watch the things he does and model myself after his game."
Jackson on the potential to start in the season opener against Indianapolis: “I think I’ll be ready when the time comes. I’m going to come in and work and improve in every aspect of my game. I’m going to do the little things and pay attention to the little details that are going to get me better as a player. I’ll be ready to come in and contribute in any way possible. If that means starting right away then I’m ready.”
Caldwell on what his friend will bring to the Texans: "You’re going to get a fiery guy, a competitor, super intelligent. I think what kind of set him apart in the draft and the reason why we kind of got him is because of how physical he is. I think he’s probably the most physical corner in the draft, and he’s just an all-around good guy."
Caldwell on whether Jackson can start right away: “I don’t think so at all. There’s really nothing that Kareem can’t bring to the table or can’t do if you ask him to do it, so I don’t think he’ll have a problem at all.”
Caldwell on if playing for Nick Saban makes players more ready for the NFL: “Absolutely. I really do think so. I played for Saban for my last two years. It really made me develop into pretty much being a pro at the college level. That kind of influence and that kind of impact on somebody is what Coach Saban had on me. And he definitely had it on Kareem, because Kareem probably got the worst end of it because Coach Saban actually coaches the DBs.”
