GM, Marcus McNeill's agent deny report
By Bill Williamson
The agent for holdout San Diego left tackle Marcus McNeill denied a report that he and the Chargers have resumed talks about a new deal.
“We haven’t talked since June 15,” agent Alvin Keels said in a phone interview. “We’re at a stalemate. Hopefully, that will change before the season starts, but we have no scheduled talks with the Chargers.”
On Friday, NFL.com reported that talks have restarted. San Diego general manager A.J. Smith also denied the report in an interview with the San Diego Union Tribune.
Also, Smith said the Chargers will not tell Shawne Merriman he will not be traded. That is why Merriman didn’t report to training camp on time. However, Smith did say the team has no plans to deal the linebacker.
McNeill, Merriman, receiver Vincent Jackson and rookie running back Ryan Mathews are all out of camp. Although, indications are that Mathews could sign soon. McNeill and Jackson are expected to hold out well into the season.
