Power Rankings: Saints on top
By Pat Yasinskas
The New Orleans Saints are back where they belong. They’re No. 1 in the latest ESPN.com Power Rankings.
That comes a week after the defending champions surprisingly opened the season at No. 2. In the initial voting, the three smart and sane voters had the Saints at No. 1. But John “The Anchor’’ Clayton dragged them down with a No. 5 vote. Clayton still couldn’t bring himself to put the Saints at No. 1 this week. But he gave them a No. 2 vote and that wasn’t enough to drag down the wonderful voting by the other three panelists.
The rest of the NFC South didn’t fare so well. The Atlanta Falcons fell out of the top 10 and are at No. 13. Carolina’s at No. 26. I do have to admit I’m a little surprised to see Tampa Bay at No. 28.
I know, a victory over Cleveland might not seem all that impressive. But the Buccaneers are one of only two NFC South teams that are undefeated. Shouldn’t that count for something?
