AFC West High Energy Player of the Week

By Bill Williamson

NFC High Energy: East | West | North | South AFC: East | West | North | South

A look at a player who gave his team a significant boost in Week 2.

I wonder who it is this week?

Brad Gradkowski
Bruce Gradkowski completed 11 of 22 passes and threw a touchdown in relief of Jason Campbell.
How can it be anyone but Bruce Gradkowski?

Gradkowski is the definition of high energy. If Gradkowski never does anything positive again, he’ll still have a place in Raiders' lore. The guy is an incredible sparkplug for Oakland’s offense. A career journeyman and a failed starter elsewhere, Gradkowski has shown an ability to get the most out of his Oakland teammates.

The latest installment of Gradkowski’s improbable Oakland story came Sunday when he led Oakland to 13 points in the second half in a 16-14 win over St. Louis. Gradkowski replaced an ineffective Jason Campbell. With Campbell as quarterback, the Raiders couldn’t do anything on offense.

As soon as Gradkowski came in, much to delight of the home crowd, the Raiders’ offense perked up. Heck, Oakland’s defense even began to play better when he came into the game.

Gradkowski runs around on nearly every play and he has a great passion for the game. Gradkowski sparked Oakland when he spelled JaMarcus Russell last season and he energized the team in the preseason. That’s just what Gradkowski does. He gives Oakland an incredible dose of energy.
