Wrap-up: Broncos 24, Texans 23
By Bill Williamson
A look at full-blown Tebow-mania in Denver.
What it means: Tim Tebow may not leave the field for the Broncos for quite some time. In his second NFL start, Tebow gave the home crowd something to be hopeful for when he threw for 308 yards and scored the game-winning touchdown on a 6-yard run in the final minutes. Denver is 4-11 and will not get the No. 1 pick in the draft, which should end speculation by Denver great John Elway and others on whether the Broncos would take Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck, if he entered the draft. Luck will not be in Denver next year.
Tomorrow’s talker: Tebow’s push for 2011. Tebow auditioned for prospective Denver coaches in the win. His performance made it easier on potential candidates to believe Tebow can be the starter next season. With ownership and the fan base fully behind Tebow, it’sdifficult to see Tebow not going into the offseason as the favorite to be the 2011 opening day starting quarterback. The victory makes you wonder if interim coach Eric Studesville could be in the mix if Denver beats San Diego next week to go 2-2 under Studesville. It’s obvious that Studesville would be on board with Tebow being the 2011 starter.
Trending: Tebow’s presence helped the entire offense. Denver had 126 yards rushing on 33 carries. The run game had not worked well for much of this season.
What’s next: Denver finishes the season by hosting San Diego, which was eliminated from the playoff race Sunday. Another big game from Tebow could bring some warmth during a long winter in the Rocky Mountains.
