Jaguars oust general counsel Vance
By Paul Kuharsky
The Jaguars revealed Monday that they’ve fired Paul Vance, severing ties with the team’s general counsel who’d been with the franchise since its inception.
New owner Shahid Khan is married to general manager Gene Smith, who signed a new contract with former owner Wayne Weaver on the same day the team’s sale was announced. So Khan is not averse to carry-over.
But the Vance move signals the degree to which Khan wants a fresh slate and to get his own people into place.
Sashi Brown was promoted to general counsel, according to Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union, who obtained a copy of the email Khan sent to the staff announcing the move.
"Sashi has served the Jaguars franchise impressively as our Senior Vice President Digital Media & Assistant General Counsel, and everyone who knows Sashi is well aware of his passion for the NFL, the Jaguars and the Jacksonville community. Sashi will report directly to me and I am counting on him to play a significant role in this new beginning for the Jacksonville Jaguars."
Vance will stay on as a consultant.
The team’s search for a new coach continues, with current offensive coordinators the known focus. Jay Gruden, the Cincinnati Bengals coordinator, is in the mix. Following the Bengals’ Saturday playoff exit, he’s believed to be ready and willing to talk with the Jaguars.
