Tim Tebow at tailback not a bad idea
By James Walker
New York Jets backup quarterback Tim Tebow at running back?
Not a bad idea.
This has been something thrown around by fans and media for weeks, and it appears Jets head coach Rex Ryan is finally warming up to the idea.
"That's a possibility," Ryan said, according to ESPNNewYork.com. "The thing about Tim, with him being a football player like we've always talked about, by playing quarterback he knows all the positions and so, can you plug him in at running back? Can you plug him in at tight end, whatever? I think the answer is yes."
I have heard and seen worse ideas.
Although this could be a bit of gamesmanship by Ryan before Sunday's big rivalry game against the New England Patriots (3-3), this is something the Jets (3-3) should consider at some point this season. Tebow is a strong runner who can move the chains. The Jets also need depth at running back behind starter Shonn Greene. Why not give Tebow a few carries?
Tebow is not helping the Jets much as a backup quarterback this season. Unless New York benches quarterback Mark Sanchez, there is only so much Tebow can contribute throwing the football.
The Jets should hand Tebow the football and see what happens.
