Halftime thoughts on Falcons-Cowboys

By Pat Yasinskas

ATLANTA – The Falcons’ undefeated record could be in jeopardy.

Atlanta (7-0) is tied, 6-6, with the Dallas Cowboys at halftime in the Georgia Dome. Atlanta trailed much of the first half, until Matt Bryant tied it with a 46-yard field goal on the final play of the first half.

Atlanta’s defense has done a decent job, limiting the Cowboys to just two field goals.

But the Falcons really haven’t been able to get into any sort of rhythm on offense. A running game that hasn’t been great all season has been anemic in this game. Quarterback Matt Ryan has been pretty accurate, but he’s only hit on one downfield throw, a 38-yarder to Julio Jones.

You can blame some of Ryan’s lack of success with the deep ball on the lack of a running game. But I think more blame should fall on the pass blocking. Ryan’s been getting a lot of pressure from the Dallas defense and there have been moments in the first half when it appeared the Falcons weren’t even aware where DeMarcus Ware was lined up on the field.

Despite all that, the Falcons still are very much in this game. But they’re going to have to find their offense in the second half if they want to stay undefeated.

I’ll be back with Rapid Reaction soon after the game ends and will have a follow-up column after that.
