Poll: Should Steelers play Big Ben Sunday?

By Jamison Hensley

There's no question that the Steelers need Ben Roethlisberger at quarterback. But there is a question of whether Roethlisberger should come back just a couple of weeks removed from a serious injury.

On Nov. 12, Roethlisberger suffered a rare and potentially life-threating rib injury that caused him to miss the past two games. The Steelers' offense has scored two offensive touchdowns in Roethlisberger's absence.

Team sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that Roethlisberger will begin soft-tossing the football this week to test his range of motion and work through the pain of his rare rib and shoulder injury.

As Sports Illustrated's Peter King pointed out, this injury typically would take more than a month to heal. When the Steelers play at Baltimore, Roethlisberger would be 20 days removed from injuring his rib.

Ravens running back Ray Rice told King that there's no doubt that Roethlisberger will be throwing passes against Baltimore.

"I don't know what kind of medicine the Steelers will put Ben Roethlisberger on this week," Rice said, "but they're going to give him something."
