RG3 leads NFL in vital category
By Dan Graziano
That's right. Washington Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III has taken over the NFL lead from no less a name than Peyton Manning in ... jersey sales. According to Darren Rovell, Griffin over the weekend passed Manning for the top spot in the official sales figures reported by NFLShop.com.
It's been a big couple of weeks for Griffin, who was just named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for the second time in three months, and who of course has won two key divisional games to help vault his Redskins onto the edge of contention for a playoff spot. All of these things combine to help push jersey sales, along with the fact that his jersey is new this year (as is Manning's Broncos jersey) and the extremely high level of enthusiasm about him in his own very large local market. The official jersey also says "GRIFFIN III" on the back, and you know a Roman Numeral is always going to add a little bit of cool.
Anyway, the rest of the list is interesting. New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning is No. 4 and Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz is No. 7, the highest-selling jersey for a non-quarterback.
