Raiders deny Gruden report

By Bill Williamson

Wednesday evening, the Oakland Raiders strongly denied a Tuesday report by Pro Football Weekly saying that the Raiders and former coach Jon Gruden are in talks to bring Gruden back to the team in a prominent role.

Gruden
It happened on the day first-year coach Dennis Allen lost his father, Grady Allen. Wednesday, Oakland’s public relations director sent a message from the team about the report. Here is the strong denial:

“Members of the media: There are two people on this planet that have the ability to make talks happen between Jon Gruden and the Raiders, with regard to him allegedly taking over the football operations, and/or the position of head coach. Each of those individuals, owner Mark Davis and general manager Reggie McKenzie, wanted me to communicate that this rumor has no validity whatsoever.”

Gruden is an analyst for ESPN’s “Monday Night Football.” He made this recent statement about him and several rumored jobs: "I don't have time to get into all that stuff. I like what I'm doing and I'm just trying to hang on to the job I have. Let's leave it at that.".

So, there you go.
