Mendenhall inactive again for Steelers
By Jamison Hensley
PITTSBURGH -- Rashard Mendenhall, the Steelers' leading rusher the previous three seasons, is a healthy scratch for the second straight week. He was benched last week after fumbling twice on four carries in Cleveland.
"Rashard will get an opportunity to redeem himself, I'm sure, at some point along this journey," head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday.
The Steelers will go with Jonathan Dwyer as the starter and Isaac Redman as the primary backup.
Other notes include cornerback Cortez Allen making his first NFL start in place of the injured Ike Taylor (ankle), Kelvin Beachum making his second start at right tackle and linebacker Jason Worilds filling in for LaMarr Woodley, who was ruled out Friday with an ankle injury.
Here are the inactives for the Steelers-Chargers:
STEELERS: QB Byron Leftwich, CB Ike Taylor, RB Rashard Mendenhall, LB LaMarr Woodley, G John Malecki, DE Al Woods, OT Mike Adams.
CHARGERS: WR Eddie Royal, LB Donald Butler, OT Jeromey Clary, G Tyronne Green, DT Antonio Garay, OT Mike Harris, TE Ladarius Green.
