Cry me a river on way to Candlestick Park
By Mike Sando
SAN FRANCISCO -- Greetings from cool, sunny Northern California, where NFC North counterpart Kevin Seifert and I will be sharing a rental car and some divisional discourse on our way from an undisclosed location to Candlestick Park.
The Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers are scheduled to play a divisional playoff game in the prime-time slot Saturday night.
To hear some tell it, though, this game is about more than a chance for the Packers or 49ers to reach the NFC Championship Game. It's about Green Bay's quest for respect and vindication following a season in which the Packers have been wronged and slighted. If that weren't enough, Green Bay is also also sick of hearing about the 49ers' physical style.
"Almost everyone has an ax to grind with the 49ers and a bill to pay at home," Bob McGinn wrote in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
I'm looking forward to nettling Seifert on these matters during our drive over to the stadium. I've packed some tissues just in case.
