Boldin: Ravens can't let Ed Reed leave

By Jamison Hensley

Free-agent safety Ed Reed was picked up at the airport by Texans general manager Rick Smith on Thursday morning after arriving in owner Bob McNair's private jet. You can only imagine what the Texans have planned for lunch in this full-court press to sign him.

Many Ravens fans are worried about Reed joining the post-Super Bowl exodus. Even wide receiver Anquan Boldin, who isn't even part of the Ravens anymore, agrees.

"A guy like Ed Reed, I don't think you can let him go," Boldin told "Mike and Mike in the Morning" . "He's a Raven legend. The things that he's done for that organization, you can't lose a guy like that."

Of all people, Boldin knows that the NFL doesn't allow for too many fairytale endings.

Asked why he was traded, Boldin said, "I'm not sure. I felt like everything was going great. That's the business part of this league. Sometimes it's unfortunate."

Boldin was traded to the 49ers for a sixth-round pick Monday after he refused to take a pay cut. Baltimore gained $5.5 million in salary-cap room by cutting ties with him.

Boldin described his departure as "bittersweet."

"I always felt that when I signed with Baltimore, that would be the last place I would call home in the NFL," he said. "But my memories there are great. I have no regrets. I was brought to Baltimore to help win a championship. In February, we came home champions. As far as on the field, I don't feel like I left anything behind."
