Gauging Bills' interest in Matt Hasselbeck

By James Walker

The Buffalo Bills are desperate for a starting quarterback after cutting Ryan Fitzpatrick and will turn over nearly every rock this offseason to find one.

Could 37-year old Matt Hasselbeck be a possibility? The Tennessee Titans released Hasselbeck on Monday.

According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, the Bills are one of many teams interested in the veteran quarterback. Mortensen also mentions the Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers, New York Giants, Indianapolis Colts, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints. So the competition is steep.

I sought out opinions from Bills fans Monday evening via Twitter, and the reponses were mixed:
The Bills haven't done much in free agency other than signing linebacker Manny Lawson. So simply having reported interest in a veteran upgrade is offseason progress.

But the competition will be plentiful for Hasselbeck. The Bills have a shot if Hasselbeck is still looking for a chance to start in 2013. But Buffalo will not get a look if Hasselbeck's priority is to join a Super Bowl contender.
