Saints general manager Mickey Loomis is optimistic the Saints will be able to open their season in the Superdome on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
But that's not certain. Although the Superdome appears to have held up well through Hurricane Gustav, the Saints and the NFL have to talk with local officials to see if it's logistically possible for the city to host a game. Most of the region evacuated and local officials have yet to say when a return to New Orleans will be allowed. About 2,500 people work at the Superdome on a game day and the Saints want to make sure workers and fans will be able to get to the stadium.
