Redskins' Fred Davis fined for celebration
By John Keim
There was comedy in his end zone celebration, mainly for how, uh, unique it was. Another word would be this: bad. Regardless, it cost the Redskins 15 yards in their preseason opener and it also cost tight end Fred Davis some money.
The NFL confirmed that it fined Davis $7,875 for unsportsmanlike conduct because of his celebration after catching a 3-yard touchdown pass from Kirk Cousins against Tennessee on Aug. 8. Davis started shaking, fell to the ground and continued to shake. It was a cross between appearing to be tased or electrocuted or having convulsions. Regardless, it wasn’t a good look. And with the NFL cracking down on excessive celebrations, it was a costly one.
In reality, Davis told reporters afterward that it was a spontaneous celebration.
“I just spazzed out. It was dumb,” Davis said. “I cost my team a penalty. … I’m definitely going to come up with a better plan next time.”
