Morris Claiborne catching body up to mind
By Todd Archer
IRVING, Texas -- Morris Claiborne did not take a snap in the preseason because of a knee injury, but the Dallas Cowboys cornerback made sure he was tested in Monday’s practice by taking scout-team snaps against Miles Austin and Dez Bryant.
“I feel like my mind is ready,” Claiborne said. “I just got to get my body caught up with my mind.”
Claiborne will play in Sunday’s season opener against the New York Giants at AT&T Stadium, but he is spending extra time on his conditioning. He ran a series of sprints after Monday’s practice and will do more as the week goes on.
He returned to practice on Aug. 26 but was held out of the preseason finale versus Houston.
“I feel like I’m getting close,” Claiborne said of his conditioning. “I know if I had to go play a game I feel like I could get through that whole game. I’m feeling pretty good, but I’m going to get a little winded.”
Claiborne saw limited action in the 2012 preseason as a rookie but was ready for the regular-season opener the Cowboys won at MetLife Stadium. He felt ready for the test of Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks and knows they will come at him again Sunday.
“I feel like I can up my feet a little bit,” Claiborne said. “I’m a little bit all over the place right now, but I know that’s no problem.”
He has six days to get ready.
