Who is Oakland's QB? Allen isn't saying
By Bill Williamson
Dennis Allen knows. So does Terrelle Pryor and Matt Flynn.
But Allen isn’t telling us or the Indianapolis Colts.
The Oakland coach said Monday he is not ready to announce who will be his starting quarterback Sunday at Indianapolis in the season opener. Allen said he might not announce his decision until Sunday. Usually, these things have a way of becoming known during the week, though.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported that Pryor took the first snap of practice with the first team. That doesn’t mean anything for certain, but it is a hint that Pryor may be getting the nod. That has been the expectation since Pryor was given the chance to start the preseason finale at Seattle while Flynn rested a sore arm.
Pryor didn’t realize the job as he continued to show inconsistency as a passer. But he did make some plays with his feet. His ability to run is his best attribute at this point.
I’d be surprised if Pryor doesn’t get the nod. He may not be ready, but this is a young talent. The Raiders might as well see what Pryor can offer them. They know what they got in Flynn -- he’s a game manager who is best suited to be a backup.
Again, I think Pryor gets the gig, but we won’t know for sure until Allen decides it’s OK for the Colts to know his plan.
