Welcome to AT&T Stadium
By Todd Archer
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Welcome to AT&T Stadium where the Dallas Cowboys host the New York Giants in the season opener at 7:30 p.m.
Anthony Spencer’s status: Anthony Spencer did not practice all week and is doubtful for tonight’s game because of a July 25 knee surgery. He suffered a setback last weekend and was unable to do anything on the field, and on Friday acknowledged sitting out tonight could help him for the long season. Even if Spencer is active, George Selvie should get the first start of his career.
For openers, Romo strong: Tony Romo gets a lot of heat for how he finishes the season, but he generally opens the season strong. He is 4-2 in his six season openers with 14 touchdown passes and just four interceptions. He has thrown for at least 300 yards in five of his six starts to start the season. He had 282 yards in the 2010 season opener at Washington, a 13-7 loss.
Beware of Ware: With the defensive line banged up the Cowboys will need more from DeMarcus Ware. The Giants know this. Eli Manning really knows this. Ware, who has 111 career sacks, has dropped Manning more than any other quarterback in the league. Ware has 13.5 sacks of Manning from 2005-12. Donovan McNabb and Michael Vick are tied for second at 6.5
The ref: Tony Corrente. He last worked a Cowboys game in the 2010 season finale against Philadelphia.
