Dolphins practice report: Patterson out

By James Walker

DAVIE, Fla. -- The Miami Dolphins (2-0) wrapped up their final preparations for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons (1-1). Here are several notes from practice.

Patterson
Miami starting cornerback Dimitri Patterson sat out of Friday’s practice with a groin injury. That’s a good indication that he will not play against the Falcons. Miami most likely will start backup cornerback Nolan Carroll for the second straight week.

Dolphins starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill has a right shoulder injury but threw the football in individual drills early in practice. The team portion of practice was closed off to the media. So it’s unknown if Tannehill’s practice was full or limited. The final injury report will come out this evening.

Miami defensive tackle Paul Soliai (knee) didn’t practice and is not expected to play this weekend. He missed every practice this week after getting injured against the Indianapolis Colts.

The Dolphins practiced with wet footballs Friday due to the possibility of rain in Sunday’s forecast. Sun Life Stadium can be a tough place to play with heavy rains. Ball security will be important.

Miami could get some much-needed secondary help with rookie cornerbacks Will Davis (toe) and Jamar Taylor (groin). Both players practiced Friday and haven’t missed a day of preparation this week. Davis, in particular, could have a decent role on defense considering Patterson’s status.
