Rex Ryan ready for Rob Gronkowski

By Jane McManus

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Rob Gronkowski could be back in the New England Patriots' lineup now that his agent says he’s been cleared to play.

The reliably cryptic Bill Belichick did not exactly confirm the report, saying, “We’ll list the injuries at the end of the day like we always do on Friday.”

It’s unclear how Gronkowski, who had forearm and back surgery in the offseason, could play against New York this Sunday, but the 6-foot-6, 265-pound tight end has always presented a matchup problem for the Jets.

Earlier this season, a similar-style tight end Tony Gonzalez had 10 receptions for 97 yards when the Jets beat Atlanta 30-28 in Week 5.

On Thursday, Jets coach Rex Ryan said the team is preparing for Gronkowski, either way.

“We’re assuming he’ll play, but you’re also ready if he doesn’t,” Ryan said. “Your plan may be altered some if he does play, but obviously that’s the way you go in assuming he’s going to play.”
