Inactives: What Talib's absence means

By Field Yates

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- For the second consecutive week, the New England Patriots will be without top cornerback Aqib Talib, as he is among the team's seven inactive players for today's game against the Miami Dolphins.

Below is a full list of inactives:

OL Chris Barker
DE Jake Bequette
LB Steve Beauharnais
WR Josh Boyce
DT Tommy Kelly
CB Aqib Talib
RB Leon Washington

Quick-hit thoughts: Talib is the name of note on this list, as he was limited all week in practice and is the team's top cornerback. In his absence, the Patriots will likely rely on the trio of Alfonzo Dennard, Kyle Arrington and rookie Logan Ryan. Arrington struggled in Week 7, leading to more snaps for Ryan in the team's base defense. It will be interesting to see if Ryan takes more snaps in the base group or if he is used strictly as a nickel cornerback. Kelly and Washington had previously been declared out, while the remaining inactives represent depth level players. After being signed earlier this week, defensive end Andre Carter will make his season debut today.

Below are the Dolphins inactives:

CB Will Davis
QB Pat Devlin
RB Mike Gillislee
CB Jamar Taylor
OL Dallas Thomas
OL Danny Watkins
OT Will Yeatman
