Martin's departure raises serious questions
By James Walker
What are the Miami Dolphins thinking, and what are their priorities?
That was my reaction after multiple sources confirmed to ESPN.com that a lunchroom ribbing from teammates led to starting offensive tackle Jonathan Martin becoming irate and leaving the team.
The Dolphins are 3-4 thanks to a four-game losing streak. They just allowed 24 unanswered points in the second half during a loss to the rival New England Patriots. On a short week, Miami’s season is essentially on the line Thursday against the red-hot Cincinnati Bengals (6-2).
Is this the ideal time for ribbing a teammate?
This isn’t training camp. It is almost November, which is crunch time in the NFL.
The Dolphins should be focused first on winning and getting out of this funk. Miami has a chance Thursday to get back to .500, which could position the team for a playoff push.
But with so much going on -- both on and off the field -- I’m not sure what to expect from the Dolphins in the second half of the season. We will know a lot more about this team on Thursday night.
