Thompson, who was officially waived June 19, is expected to have knee surgery in the near future. But the Titans did not release him with an injury designation at the time of the transaction.
Thompson made it clear to the team during official team activities that the knee, which limited him to just three games last season, was bothering him again.
But Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt seemed to question that issue before Thompson's release.
"To be honest with you, I don't know what to tell you,'' Whisenhunt told The Tennessean one week before Thompson's being cut. "When [Thompson] left here, however many weeks ago, he was healthy. We communicated; he said he was fine, no issues, other than some personal matters. He shows up, says there's something wrong with his knee, and I have no idea what he is talking about."
Thompson was a fifth-round pick of the Titans out of the 2012 NFL Draft.
