Adrian Peterson active for Vikings; Stefon Diggs will start

DETROIT -- Even though he was downgraded to questionable on the Minnesota Vikings' injury report because of illness, there never seemed to be much doubt from those close to Adrian Peterson that he'd play on Sunday against the Detroit Lions. And when the Vikings released their active roster on Sunday morning, Peterson was on it.

The running back will start on Sunday at Ford Field, playing his first game in Detroit since he took his opening carry of the 2013 season for a 78-yard touchdown. The NFL reportedly looked into the Vikings' injury reporting practices last week, after defensive end Everson Griffen was listed inactive with an illness. Coach Mike Zimmer said this week the Vikings followed the proper injury reporting steps with Griffen, who underwent tests for heart-related issues. But in light of what happened last week, it's not surprising to see the Vikings make a point of noting any possible change in the status of a player like Peterson.

Rookie receiver Stefon Diggs also will start, after catching seven passes for 129 yards last week against the Kansas City Chiefs. As we discussed, the Vikings had Diggs working with their first receiver unit this week, and he's done enough to help Teddy Bridgewater establish a downfield passing game that he figured to be heavily involved in the Vikings' offense again. All six of the Vikings' receivers are active today, but Diggs will get his chances for another big game against the Lions' 27th-ranked pass defense.

Here is the full list of inactives for the Vikings:
