The San Diego Chargers suffered a potential blow when third-round pick Donald Butler was lost for the season after tearing his Achilles tendon. He was injured in practice Tuesday and was carted off the field.
ButlerThe Chargers were worried the injury may be serious and their greatest fears were confirmed Wednesday. San Diego was excited about the Washington product and he was expected to get some playing time at inside linebacker. Butler had been working with the second team during training camp and was expected to be an immediate help on special teams.
With Butler out, keep an eye on Antwan Applewhite as a player who could get some more playing time. The team really likes him.
The Chargers also got some sad news Wednesday. Former defensive lineman Gary “Big Hands” Johnson died after a stroke. He was 57. Johnson was an integral part of the Chargers from 1975 to 1984.
