NEW ORLEANS — No big surprise here, but the Atlanta Falcons will be without two injured defenders in their “Monday Night Football’’ game with the New Orleans Saints.

Linebacker Stephen Nicholas (groin) and nickel back Kelvin Hayden have been declared inactive. Veteran Mike Peterson likely will start in Nicholas’ place. Dominique Franks likely will be Atlanta’s nickel back.

The other inactives for the Falcons are quarterback John Parker Wilson, center Brett Romberg, tackle Kirk Chambers, receiver Kerry Meier and defensive end Cliff Matthews.

I’ll be back with the inactives for the Saints as soon as I get them.
SEATTLE — The San Francisco 49ers will play it safe with Patrick Willis for at least another week.

The team listed its Pro Bowl linebacker as inactive against the Seattle Seahawks. That is no surprise after Willis practiced on only a limited basis while recovering from a hamstring injury. The team needs him for the playoffs.

Receiver Braylon Edwards, inactive for the 49ers against Pittsburgh last week, is active and starting.

Return specialist Ted Ginn Jr. is also inactive for the 49ers. Ginn scored twice on return touchdowns against Seattle in Week 1. He has helped the 49ers lead the NFL in average starting field position this season. His absence leaves the team less experienced and less dynamic in the return game.

For the Seahawks, receiver Doug Baldwin is active despite an ankle injury, consistent with what coach Pete Carroll said he expected. Baldwin injured the ankle in practice Wednesday. He's the best receiver on the active roster and a player the Seahawks rely upon during critical situations, including third down. Having him active was especially important with Sidney Rice and Mike Williams on injured reserve.

Inactive for the 49ers: Willis, nose tackle Ian Williams, guard Mike Person, guard Daniel Kilgore, cornerback Tramaine Brock, Ginn and quarterback Scott Tolzien.

Inactive for Seattle: quarterback Josh Portis, safety Jeron Johnson, cornerback Kennard Cox, linebacker Malcolm Smith, guard Paul Fanaika, defensvie tackle Clinton McDonald and tackle Jarriel King.

Linebacker Jonathan Vilma, who had been out with a knee injury, is active and is expected to start.

SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Francisco 49ers kept running back Frank Gore active Sunday after listing him as questionable on their Friday injury report.

That was the most notable pregame roster move for San Francisco in Week 11. The team also declared free safety Madieu Williams inactive, choosing instead to keep cornerback Shawntae Spencer active. Spencer provides additional coverage depth after starter Tarell Brown suffered a knee injury in practice. The team listed Brown as questionable. He is active. Also at corner, rookie Chris Culliver is coming off a rough week against the New York Giants, according to 49ers' coaches.

The Arizona Cardinals' inactive list featured no big surprises. Quarterback Kevin Kolb and tight ends Todd Heap and Rob Housler will miss the game while resting injuries. All have struggled with injuries in recent weeks. Kolb in particular was not expected to play.
