NFL Nation: rating the stadiums

Fans visiting the Miami Dolphins' Sun Life Stadium -- or any NFL venue in Florida -- might want to pack a lunch.

Those were among the revelations from an "Outside The Lines" investigation highlighting "critical violations" incurred by stadium food vendors in recent inspections. The report showed disparate reviews for NFL venues, with 93 percent of vendors at Sun Life Stadium incurring critical violations -- compared to zero percent at Gillette Stadium and less than 10 percent at stadiums in Baltimore and Indianapolis.

The Sun Life report sounded unsettling enough for Dolphins boss Bill Parcells to reach for the antacid tablets he helped advertise years ago.

"In June 2009, an employee complained anonymously that small insects and other debris were blended into frozen alcoholic beverages at a stand where equipment wasn't being cleaned," the Sun Life Stadium inspection report reads. "When inspectors checked, they issued a critical violation for a buildup of slime inside the frozen drinks machine."

Thanks, but no thanks.

The chart below, based on information from the OTL piece, ranks NFL stadiums by percentage of food vendors suffering critical violations in recent inspections.

Bon appétit.
