TOP THINGS TO KNOW
1. The NHL trade deadline is Monday, Feb. 27 at 3 ET. After two clubs have come to an agreement on a trade, the clubs must advise the league office, either by telephone or by fax, of the terms of the trade. The league office then schedules a conference call with the two teams to review the transaction and give final approval for the deal.

2. Last year, there were 16 trades involving 35 players at the deadline. The 16 trades were the fewest since the 1999-2000 season (12).

3. There have been at least 10 trades at the deadline every year since 1994, and the last time there were fewer than 10, in 1993, there were nine made.

4. Superstars and established players have been moved at the deadline. Hall of Famers Ron Francis, Ray Bourque and Glenn Anderson were all moved at or near the deadline in past years, helping their new teams to Stanley Cup championships.
