And just when you thought the wait was over.
Coveted unrestricted free agent Zach Parise announced he has yet to make a decision on where he will sign.
"I'm getting closer but haven't made a decision. I haven't set any deadlines," he told reporters in an impromptu press conference early Monday evening.
The 27-year-old winger said he plans consult with his family before making a final call. He also insisted he is not being pressured by any of the teams with offers on the table to hasten the process.
According to Parise's agent, Wade Arnott, he narrowed his list to a "small, select group," on Sunday when the free agency period begin.
"We have thoroughly deliberated every option with Zach," Arnott told ESPN the Magazine's Craig Custance in an email. "He wishes to take some time to step back and review all with his fiancee and his family. We could be drawing closer to a decision."
Although he did not say what teams remain in contention, Parise confirmed the Devils are still in the mix.
