SuperSkills events on R&D Camp itinerary

Can't wait until January to see the All-Star SuperSkills competition? Those events will be part of new ideas, gadgets and rules that Brendan Shanahan is putting on display in front of the league's hockey operations department, GMs, coaches, scouts and executives at the NHL's Research, Development and Orientation Camp.

The camp will gather some of the top young prospects for the 2012 NHL draft to test new concepts such as moving faceoffs after an offside into the offending team's zone, limiting line changes at stoppages in play and removing the trapezoid that restricts goaltenders' puckhandling.

There also will be a session devoted to refining challenges in the All-Star SuperSkills competition.

"These players will go through each and every skill that was performed at the SuperSkills competition in Raleigh and give us an opportunity to present an even more entertaining show in Ottawa next January," Shanahan said in a statement released by the NHL.

The camp will be held Aug. 17 and 18 in Toronto.
