#ThankYouTeemu: Farewell to a legend

By Sarah Goldstein

The Ducks' exit from the playoffs on Friday night was (most likely) the end of Teemu Selanne's remarkable career. The NHL community took to Twitter to wish the future Hall of Famer a final farewell.

We’ll miss Teemu. It been an honor to watch him all these years. Truly a legend.

Congrats to Teemu on a HOF career, it was an honor to play against him. #8intherafters pic.twitter.com/Tx02KPdHo2

Painful to watch a guy like Teemu have to ever call it a career. Classy by the Kings as well. #ThankYouTeemu

Honored to say I played against such a legend in Teemu Selanne...he's the type of player you tell your grandkids about #classclassclass #8

Teemu Selanne. World class, on and off the ice!

I asked Teemu Selanne to sign a stick 3 years ago thinking it was his last year, shows what I know! One of the best all time! #finishflash

Few players graced NHL arenas with more class on/off the ice than the great Teemu Selanne. Cannot be said enough how much he'll be missed...

Getzlaf picks up the puck at the buzzer and gives it to Selanne. Bittersweet moment

— Pierre LeBrun (@Real_ESPNLeBrun) May 17, 2014

Kopitar with a big hug for Selanne. Darryl Sutter showing respect as well in the handshake line to Selanne. What a moment here...

Kings players joining Ducks in tapping their sticks, honoring Selanne. Holy. What a scene.

Thanks, Teemu. The game won't be the same.

— Craig Custance (@CraigCustance) May 17, 2014

Long after I've forgotten who won the Cup in '14, I'll remember seeing the Kings tap the ice to show respect to the man they beat #Teemu

The first time Teemu Selanne scored a goal in the postseason was April 23, 1993 ... he had a hat trick vs the Canucks and Kirk McLean
