Watch: Barry Melrose on Jarkko Ruutu's hit
Barry Melrose expects Anaheim's Jarkko Ruutu will be suspended for at least one or two games for his hit on Nashville's Martin Erat, who did not return to the game Wednesday.
Erat went down immediately after Ruutu hit him near the Predators' bench and stayed on the ice for a few minutes before slowly rising with help. He went straight to the locker room and did not return with what was called an upper-body injury. Erat did not appear to have possession of the puck when he was hit. Ruutu was sent to the box for interference.
Also on Wednesday night, the Flyers' Mike Richards was surprised to receive a five-minute major for elbowing the Sabres' Patrick Kaleta late in the second period. It happened as Richards was in front of the Buffalo bench, bracing himself as Kaleta lined him up for a hit.
