The Winnipeg Jets have sent D Johnny Oduya to the Chicago Blackhawks for second- and third-round picks in 2013.

From Barry Melrose: "I think it is a great move for Chicago. Obviously, they needed defensive help, and Oduya fits the Chicago style. He is a great skater and a guy who can really help their depth, and they didn't have to give up anyone off their roster."

The Atlanta Thrashers are getting calls on defenseman Johnny Oduya and tire-kicking on fellow blueliner Ron Hainsey.

The Thrashers have a surplus of defensemen, so they would be dealing from a position of strength.

Hainsey, however, would be a pricey pickup; he'll have two years remaining on his current deal at $4.5 million this season, next season and in 2012-13.

• A short Canucks update: We want to remind folks that Vancouver is eyeing Marty Reasoner and Zenon Konopka.

• A Hurricanes source says there is still no deal for a defenseman.
