North Carolina forward Harrison Barnes, who sprained his left ankle at Wake Forest on Tuesday night, will not practice Thursday, a team spokesman said in an e-mail.
His status for Friday's workout is to be determined.
Barnes, the ACC Preseason Player of the Year and the team's leading scorer, limped to the bench with 7:49 left in the first half of UNC's victory after rolling the ankle while running down the court. He had the ankle re-taped, played the final 1:23 of the first half and 15 minutes of the second half, and finished with 13 points and seven rebounds. He said he was in pain after the game; tests Wednesday revealed that the injury was not more serious than a sprain.
The team had the day off Wednesday, and was scheduled to practice Thursday afternoon.
The sixth-ranked Tar Heels play at Maryland on Saturday.
