Over at Recruiting Nation, ESPN.com's Dave Telep has put together a top-10 list of the most feared programs on the recruiting trail.
The criteria included: highest-level talent added and fought for on a consistent basis; strength of the opponents you recruit against for players; ability to not only make the lists of recruits, but be a factor in the final lists; current recruiting momentum alongside recent success; ability to step outside your natural geographic region and land recruits; and the ability to close the hardest and shut down a recruit's decision-making process before any other programs enter the equation.
Kentucky tops the ratings, which can be viewed here.
But here's what Telep wrote about the Tar Heels, who came in at No. 2:
The Tar Heels remain exceptionally powerful. Roy Williams, Michael Jordan, the Dean Dome, national titles and NBA draft picks combine to form a formidable foe. One can argue that UNC does its damage among the top-25 ranked players and, like Kentucky, makes most of the final lists it wishes. In situations where there are few voices and layers to recruitment, North Carolina turns up the heat on those top players.
In addition, Duke came in at No. 3 in the rankings, while NC State made the "In three years it could happen here ..." list.
