Tuesday's North Carolina-Indiana matchup lost some of its oomph when the Tar Heels lost to Butler in the semifinals of last week's Maui Invitational. But the highly anticipated ACC/Big Ten Challenge meeting is still intriguing based on the legacies of the two programs and IU's status as the No. 1-ranked team in the country -- just a few years removed from one of the worst seasons in the team's history. The two programs haven't faced off since 2004, when the Heels won 70-63 in Bloomington. North Carolina won the national title later that season.
The circumstances have been reversed for this meeting. Indiana is the team with a target on its back. Carolina is the program with something to prove. Here are five burning questions in advance of this UNC-IU matchup: 1. Is North Carolina deep enough? The Tar Heels will be without the injured P.J. Hairston, a solid 3-point shooter and the squad's third-leading scorer at 10.8 ppg. That's a problem for a team facing one of the deepest rosters in America. The nation's most efficient offense is led by five players who average double-figures (Cody Zeller, Jordan Hulls, Victor Oladipo, Will Sheehey and Christian Watford).
