Halftime thoughts: UNC-South Carolina
By Robbi Pickeral
LAS VEGAS – Top-ranked North Carolina leads South Carolina 45-32 at halftime of the second semifinal game of the Las Vegas Invitational. John Henson leads the Tar Heels with 13 points. A few thoughts:
It seems like it should be more of a blowout at this point, considering that South Carolina turned the ball over 11 times in roughly the first 10 minutes, and has 17 turnovers at the break. Problem is, when the Gamecocks aren’t turning it over, they’ve started making shots. They are shooting 50 percent.
Looks like freshman reserve wing P.J. Hairston has picked up where sophomore reserve wing Reggie Bullock left off Tuesday: being a scoring spark off the bench. Hairston has 12 points, and has made three 3-pointers.
Free-throw shooting still needs work. UNC has made only 10 of 15 attempts (66.7 percent) for the game.
