Notre Dame is back on top of the college football world, but Charlie Weis is not taking any of the credit.
Weis, who is completing his first season at Kansas, coached the Fighting Irish for five years and recruited a majority of the key contributors for the nation's current No. 1 team.
But Weis sidestepped the opportunity to talk about Notre Dame's success Tuesday -- five days before his Jayhawks close their season at West Virginia -- when he released a statement to ESPN.com supporting his former players.
"I have received several requests to speak about Notre Dame and their terrific season," Weis said. "As the head coach of the University of Kansas, I do not believe it is my place."
