ESPN Insider KC Joyner takes a closer look this week at what Notre Dame returns for next season, wondering if 2012 was a short-term turnaround or the launching pad for more great seasons to come.

His conclusion? This team can certainly win 10-plus games and return to a BCS-bowl game in 2013.

Joyner, known as "The Football Scientist," cites eight different positives that next season's team should have going in its favor as it comes off a trip to the Discover BCS National Championship.

The post is on Insider, so you will have to be a subscriber to read it, but the No. 1 reason revealed a number of interesting nuggets about the man under center.

Under the banner "Elite quarterback potential," Joyner writes that Everett Golson had one of the best seasons by a quarterback in school history, citing stats such as a 1.6 bad decision rate (BDR, a metric that gauges how often a passer makes a mental error that leads to a turnover opportunity for the opposing team) and the fact that 39.1 percent of his passes were vertical, with a 10.9 yards per attempt rate on those passes that ranked up there with the likes of West Virginia's Geno Smith (11.4).
