Notre Dame has had a tremendous amount of success recruiting outside of the Midwest, and the Irish continued their good luck on Sunday.

Junior quarterback Blake Barnett (Corona, Calif./Santiago) committed to Notre Dame after visiting, according to Barnett’s twitter account.

Notre Dame offered six quarterbacks in the 2015 class and was able to snag the 6-foot-4, 185-pound signal-caller. Barnett held offers from Arizona, Cal, Colorado, Notre Dame, Ole Miss and UCLA among others.

He is part of a very strong stable of quarterback on the West Coast that includes the likes of Josh Rosen (Bellflower, Calif./St. John Bosco), Ricky Town (Ventura, Calif./St. Bonaventure), Kevin Dillman (La Mirada, Calif./La Mirada), Kyle Kearns (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill) and two other quarterbacks all ranked in the ESPN Jr. 300.

Town and Barnett are the only two committed, and both are heading out of the Pac-12 with Barnett off to Notre Dame and Town to Alabama.

Pulling prospects from the West Coast is nothing new for Notre Dame. In fact, the Irish have had more success recruiting outside the Midwest recently than expected.

The 2014 class is comprised of 19 total commitments, 14 of which are from outside the Midwest. Both commitments in the 2015 class also hail from outside the region, so it’s a positive trend for Notre Dame.

Landing top quarterbacks is also something Irish fans are starting to get used to. Coach Brian Kelly landed four-star Deshone Kizer (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic) in 2014 and ESPN 300 signal caller Malik Zaire in 2013.

Barnett will add to an already strong stable of quarterbacks to help lead the future of the Notre Dame offense.
