Te'o, Ruffer notch weekly honors

November, 22, 2011
Manti Te'o and David Ruffer earned FBS independent player of the week honors for their performances Saturday in Notre Dame's 16-14 win over Boston College.

Te'o, who notched the defensive award for the third time this season, had a team-best 12 tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss and three quarterback hurries Saturday. He now has seven games with at least 10 tackles this season and 16 for his career.

Ruffer, winner of the special teams award for the second straight week, connected on his only extra point attempt and on all three of his field goal tries Saturday -- from 40, 41 and 27 yards. He stretched his consecutive PAT and made field goal streaks to 47 and eight, respectively.

Te'o was also named the Lott IMPACT player of the week for his performance. The junior is one of eight semifinalists for the Lott IMPACT Trophy. Four finalists for the annual award will be released Nov. 29, and all four are scheduled to attend the awards banquet Dec. 11 in Newport Beach, Calif.

The Pacific Club IMPACT foundation will donate $1,000 to Notre Dame's general scholarship fund in recognition of Te'o's performance Saturday.
