Notre Dame hired Ernest Jones as its director of player development and engagement, the school announced Friday.

Jones, who was the associate head coach at Buffalo the past two seasons, will be responsible for helping players in intellectual development, social development and spiritual development. He will act as a liaison between the players and the coaching staff and "serve as primary contact between both the student welfare and development office and academic services for student-athletes department."

Jones was also Buffalo's cornerbacks coach and recruiting coordinator, and he was the director of player services at Cincinnati under Brian Kelly in 2009.

The head coach of Alcorn State, an FCS program, a year earlier, Jones was an assistant under Kelly from 2005-07, coaching Central Michigan's cornerbacks and later its running backs before coaching running backs with the Bearcats.
