Former Notre Dame defensive lineman Brandon Newman's move to Ball State is complete.
Cardinals coach Pete Lembo this week announced the addition of the fifth-year senior-to-be, who was the Irish's defensive scout team player of the year in 2011. Former Central Florida safety Jarrett Swaby is joining Newman as well.
"We are very pleased to welcome Brandon and Jarrett to the Ball State community and the football program," Lembo said in a statement. "Both of these young men were strong students, good citizens and contributors on the field at their previous institutions. We hope they can both achieve their athletic goals at Ball State while pursuing a master's degree in their chosen fields of study. With the arrival of these two veteran players, we anticipate seeing some additional competition for playing time on the defensive side of the ball during preseason camp."
Newman appeared in just two career games for the Irish after being heavily recruited out of Pleasure Ridge Park High School in Louisville, Ky. His locker room presence, however, was huge, evidenced by his work on the infamous "Trick Shot Monday" YouTube series. One of the funnier moments last season was when Newman was presented with a ping pong ball with his trophy during the team's awards dinner.
Newman had announced on Twitter before the spring that he would be playing his fifth year at Ball State.
