Tommy Rees and Carlo Calabrese are currently attending classes at Notre Dame and working out with their teammates, Irish coach Brian Kelly told the South Bend Tribune's Eric Hansen on Monday.

The fallout from the May 3 arrests is not an open and shut matter, however.
"They are cleared to stay in school. They've been cleared from me to participate in all workouts," Kelly said Monday at the Irish Legends Charity Golf, Dinner and Auction Classic at Lost Dunes Golf Club.

"When all of these things come together, we're not going to wait a long time. We're going to try to get this thing to the point where we know exactly where they are. We want to move and get all of this done."

The 20-year-old Rees has a status hearing July 17 in St. Joseph County court to address one count of battery, two counts of resisting law enforcement and one count of illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor. South Bend police say Rees kneed a police officer in the chest after he ran from a party early May 3 after officers arrived. Police had to use pepper spray to subdue Rees.

Linebacker Carlo Calabrese, arrested at the same party, has an Aug. 20 hearing to address one count of misdemeanor intimidation for allegedly threatening a South Bend police officer.

A year ago wide receiver Michael Floyd faced an indefinite suspension following an arrest in March for drunk driving -- his third alcohol-related run-in with the law during his college career -- but was eventually reinstated in August. Kelly said Monday that each case is handled individually.
"It's never a one-size-fits-all situation," Kelly said. "This is over 20 years of me being a head coach and having to look at each individual and what the sanctions are.

"We've gotten all of the reports. I've gotten a chance to meet with both of them, and we'll get this thing rolling."
