Notre Dame weekend rewind: Week 10

By Matt Fortuna

One last look back at the weekend that was for Notre Dame:

The good: Notre Dame remained perfect, wining 29-26 in triple overtime to improve to 9-0. Everett Golson bounced back from a yanking and a late-game pick to lead the Irish back, taking the two-point conversion in himself to send the game to overtime, where he eventually won it with a 1-yard plunge in the third extra session. The 14-point fourth-quarter comeback is their largest at home since a 1999 win against USC.

The bad: Five penalties in the first quarter at home is tough to swallow, as is losing the turnover margin 3-0. Special teams were not very good, either, to put it lightly.

The ugly: Of Notre Dame's 11 turnovers this season, 10 have come at home. TEN!

Close calls: Don't say this team hasn't been tested. Notre Dame's schedule so far currently ranks 23rd, according to the NCAA, ahead of Oregon (25th), Kansas State (29th) and Alabama (33rd). The Irish are 5-0 this season in games decided by seven points or fewer. Their 104 total plays Saturday tied a school record.

Next up: Notre Dame travels to Boston College for what is, technically but not technically, the second of its three-game stretch against ACC opponents. The Eagles are just 2-7 and coach Frank Spaziani is on the hottest of hot seats, though a 3-8 BC team nearly pulled off the upset last year at Notre Dame.
